Study Room RenovationThe Study Room

February 12, 2019by cheree4

Last year, I announced on my Facebook page that I was getting a designated workroom. It also happens to be the best spot on the property. If I was flexible enough to do cartwheels around the house I would have! For me having a place where I could make candles and let my paintbrush fly, is like winning the lottery.

However further down the track, I am starting to feel that this space is just a little too small to do any major furniture renovations. Paul and I have chewed it over and we have agreed that as I am spending more time online, this room will be perfect as a study room, slash informal dining area. I am sure this combination might have you scratching your heads, but let me clarify how this might be achieved. First though, let’s take a tour of our starting point…

No Paul is not about to murder me in this shot (although I’m sure he feels like putting a hammer to my head with all my design changes😁). In this photo, Paul has just begun to pull down the ceiling of the study room.

You really have to have imagination with this room…

This is the outside view of our soon to be study area. It’s hard to tell from this photograph that this room is not adjoined to the house. If our budget was bigger this is definitely something we would investigate. We plan to take out those funky sliding glass doors and replace them with Cedar French doors.

Yes we are still working on the vanity for the bathroom.
The view into the BBQ area.

You might ask me why I feel like I have won a lottery considering the state of this room? In my lively imaginative eyes, I can see myself pounding away on the keyboard while sipping hot tea, looking up momentarily to breathe in all this sea beauty.

Watching all the cruise ships pull into the harbour is something special.

Although looking at the state of this room from the outside is definitely anything but special. But I do have a plan….

First off the bat I would love to add ship-lap white walls and ceiling beams.

I would also like make a feature of the front windows by adding a more traditional design. We will see how the budget goes with this one?

No room is complete for me without some good looking Hamptons style built ins.

I do like the idea of putting a window seat on the right hand side of the door with a built in. I will have to ask the builder (aka: Paul) if that is possible?

If the wall is not big enough to accommodate a bench seat, I think having a tea/coffee station would be kinda fun and practical. It definitely would save me time not having to run into the house every five minutes to boil the jug.

Now for the slash dining room bit. I thought adding a farmhouse table that could double as a study desk and a dining table would be a really good use of space. I would also add rollers to the table legs just for ease of mobility.

By having a dining room table on standby in this room means that if the Wellington weather packs in while we are entertaining outside, at least we have an option to shuffle people inside with their sausages.

At this stage with all the other essential jobs to complete, it hard to pinpoint exactly on our timeline when the study/dining room will begin. We have this running joke, whenever I start getting impatient and pressing for a room finishing date, one us will respond in a Rachel Hunter voice “It won’t happen overnight, but it will happen”.

Hi Cheree, I can’t believe the lovely ideas you have and you are really very clever with interior decorating. I am sure that whatever you decide for the study area will be beautiful like the views you get from the Windows!

Those tea stations are amazing – I would love one of those.

Thanks Angela. You and Annalisa will have to come over for a cuppa when we get it up and running! 🙂
