UncategorizedThe Kitchen Design

It’s another crisp Winter’s day in Wellington. I am practically sitting on my heater while I type this post. My hands might be cold, but my heart is doing a happy dance. We are finally moving onto the hub of the house – The Kitchen. It seems like forever we have been discussing, drawing and collating ideas on how are we going to renovate this space.

Now we can confidently say our kitchen layout and design are finalised.

Here is our new L shaped kitchen from our 3D design software.

The wall separating the old laundry and kitchen will be knocked down. This will allow us to push back the fridge and pantry to the back wall. The wall between the dining room and kitchen will also come down to give this area an open sense of flow. We will lose some precious cupboard space though.

Putting the ideas behind the design is like the cream to the cat for me. So here goes…

It’s no secret I am a huge fan of McGee & Co. I love how she blends the old with the new to create a contemporary vibe. In this kitchen remodel, she optimises the elegance factor by taking the splash back all the way around.

It’s still a toss up if we go marble or go bold with coloured tiles and white grout.

I don’t know if it’s the latest trend, but there has definitely been a surge in two-toned kitchen cabinets.

We have tested out this look in our space already. So far we are leaning to the softer grey on the lower cabinets and white on the top cabinets. The dark colours on the bottom seem to close in the space.

Another trend I have been seeing popping up on my news feed is mixing different metal types with your hardware. Watch out for an upcoming post on how to take your design to another level.

Some beautiful hardware that I am just gushing over at the moment. I will either need to do a garage sale or a sausage sizzle to afford these beauties.

Take a closer look how they look in brass on sage cabinetry – wowza!

Once the demolishing begins, I will be sure to let you know. In fact, I will probably be shouting the commencement from my driveway. To say I can’t wait for my kitchen to begin is an understatement! Please let me know if we could add/edit/or delete any ideas. It would be really helpful to have any input before we knock down walls or cupboards.

Thank you and see you next week!
